Innovation from Canon.
Canon MEAP, which stands for "Multifunctional Embedded Application Platform," is an open, JAVA-based development platform which allows for the creation of multiple, customized business or bespoke applications capable of running inside the new devices without the need for additional external hardware. MEAP enables both Canon and third party developers, to develop applications on these new iRi devices.

Other Features
Intelligence technology allows scanned documents to be sent to multiple destinations in a single operation. By scanning documents directly into devices theycan be distributed through an intelligent Send function to PC folders, individual email addresses, file server for storage, ifax and fax* devices.  This eliminates the expense of printing, forwarding and filing hard copies. The devices can also intelligently Receive and route all incoming information so that it can be captured, shared and worked on by all authorised users on a network. Through the intelligent Copy function, heavy workloads can be tandem split between iRi machines during busy periods.

LDAP
The intelligent Send function on the new MEAP devices is also enhanced through the addition of LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol).  This feature integrates the intelligent Send function with a company’s address book, allowing employees immediate and up-to-date access to all contacts.

Enhanced Authentication
Tracking and controlling the transfer of electronic scanned documents is vital to the secure running of a business. MEAP enables upgraded security functions, which can merge with offices’ existing server passwords to authenticate individual users.   This enhancement is particularly suitable to legal and financial vertical markets.

Networked Connectivity
The iR’s simplicity of use is extended to every network user through Canon’s Remote User Interface.  Through a built in web browser function, instant and easy access to an iRi device is enabled through every networked PC.

Finishing Options
Each device offers an extensive level of document finishing options from sorting, grouping, stapling, collating, hole-punching prints to saddle stitching and V-folding for professional booklet production. Full finishing is supported direct from connected desktops .
